Art Festival] Creative Rakugo: Shinoharu Tachikawa "Red and White Smoke Battle" [Ends Sunday, October 1, 2023].

To express our gratitude for your patronage, we will hold the Art Festival in CHOURAKUKAN.
The theme of the Art Festival 2023 is "Welcome to the Guest House.
We will offer a variety of events to give you a taste of the hospitality of Chorakukan, a guest house of the Meiji era.

Creative Rakugo: Shinoharu Tachikawa "Kohaku Smoke Gassen" (Red and White Smoke Gassen)

  • Venue: "Terrace CORAL" banquet room, 1F, Chorakukan New Wing
  • A creative rakugo story by rakugo storyteller Shinoharu Tachikawa about businessman Kichibei Murai.
    Who is Kichibei Murai? What was the tobacco advertising war of the Meiji era?
    The memorable first installment of the Meiji era tobacco magnate's creative rakugo was held at Chorakukan, the former Kyoto villa of Kichihei Murai.

Speakers

  • Rakugo storyteller Shinoharu Tachikawa
    Shin-uchi. The third disciple of Shinosuke Tachikawa.
    He is challenging a wide range of expressions of Rakugo, including classical Rakugo, new Rakugo, English Rakugo, biographies of characters, and Shakespeare.
    In addition to giving online lectures, he also gives Rakugo performances in Japanese and English and conducts workshops for students.

    Special viewing of "Onsei-no-ma & Choraku-an (usually closed to the public)" on the 3rd floor of Chorakukan (11:00 - 18:00)
     Onari-no-Ma, a shoin-style Japanese-style room and Chorakuan, a tea ceremony room, located on the third (top) floor of the main building, will be open to the public for two days only.
    Okura Toen x Chiso Special Exhibition "Surrounded by Nature" (11:00-18:00)
     In the Guest Room on the first floor of the main building, Okura Toen's pottery, including works that can be considered the pinnacle of Okura's pottery, created in collaboration with Chiso, a long-established Kyoto yuzen shop, will be on display and for sale.
    Viewing of Chorakukan motif and fashion show by Kyoto Women's University students (10:30-10:45)
     Costume production and fashion show by twinkle, Kyoto Women's University Apparel Planning and Production Department on the 2nd floor of the main building, featuring each room of Chorakukan.
     Collaboration cakes by Kyoto Women's University students and Chorakukan patissiers will also be on sale.
