Connecting Meiji Cultural Properties to the Future
Chorakukan was built in 1909 by Kichihei Murai, the "King of Tobacco," as a guest house for entertaining distinguished guests from Japan and abroad. The Western-style building, which incorporates a variety of artistic styles, was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Kyoto City in 1986, including its furniture and furnishings. Chorakukan Co., Ltd. is preserving this irreplaceable cultural asset and is working to preserve it dynamically for the future by utilizing it as a café, sweet boutique, French restaurant, bar, bridal salon, and auberge hotel.
