Enryakuji Temple, Hieizan, Special Viewing of Daishoin [May 18 and 19, 2024].

Chorakukan, the Kyoto villa of Kichihei Murai (designed by James Gardiner), which welcomed distinguished guests from Japan and abroad during the Meiji era.
The Daishoin, the main residence of Kichihei Murai, moved from Sannodai, Akasaka, Tokyo to the premises of Enryakuji Temple, Hieizan (designed by Goichi Takeda).
Special stay plan to see two residences at the same time.

During your stay at Hotel Chorakukan, you will be given a guided tour of the Chorakukan building, including the third floor, which is normally closed to the public.

You will enjoy the legacy left by Kyoto businessman Kichibei Murai.
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Hieizan's registration as a World Heritage site, Genshin Fujinami, the Grand Acharya of Hieizan, will give a Dharma talk.

  • 2 persons per room per night from 255,000 yen
  • The above rates are for double occupancy per room per night and include dinner and breakfast (service charge and consumption tax included).
     A separate accommodation tax of ¥500-1,000 per person will be charged.
  • *Includes lodging at Hotel Chorakukan (2 meals per night for 2 persons), lunch on the day of visit, round-trip cab fare to Mt. Hiei, and various entrance fees.
  • The minimum number of participants is 4 for each day.

Hieizan Enryakuji Temple "Daishoin" (usually closed to the public)

  • A purely Japanese-style structure built mainly of Kiso cypress, in which Kibei Murai invested his vast wealth.
    It was built in 1919 in Akasaka Sannodai, Tokyo as "Sannoso," the main residence of Kichihei Murai,
    In the fall of 1928, it was moved to Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei as a commemorative project for the Emperor Showa's Grand Enthronement and the 1,150th anniversary of the founding of Mt.
    Today, it boasts of its grandeur as the "Daishoin," a guest house that welcomes special guests of Enryakuji Temple.

Genshin Fujinami, Grand Acharya

  • He is the abbot of Enryakuji Temple's Choujuin Temple. He is the Grand Acharya of Hokurein Daigyomitsu.

    In 1976, he was ordained at Enryakuji Temple on Mt.
    1977 After entering Eizan Gakuin, he moved to Iimurodani, Kyoto to join Yuya Sakai Ajari's Sennichi Gyo (1,000-day retreat). After graduating from Eizan Gakuin, he joined Bishamondo Monzeki in Kyoto.
    1984 Achieved the first 100 days of Kambo Gyogyo.
    1993: Entered the 12-year asceticism program at Mt. Hieizan and began the 1,000-day Kaiten Gyo asceticism.
    2003: Full completion of the 1,000-day gyokyō.
    2005 Enshrinement of the Twelve-Year Kagozan on Mount Hieizan.

  • *Hieizan Grand Shoin viewing can be selected from the date of the event from the check-in date to the out date.
  • Please contact us if you wish to visit Hieizan Daishoin on the day of your stay, as it differs from the above schedule.
  • *Dai Goma of Hiei on May 18 (Sat.) and 19 (Sun.)(Official website)will be held. If you wish to attend, please let us know in advance as the schedule will change.
