Western-style painting by Seisui Takagi [Geihin-no-ma].

The Rococo-style parlor and drawing room is decorated with 12 oval Western paintings.
It was painted by Takagi Seisui, a Meiji-era painter who also painted the portrait of Emperor Meiji.
Various world landmarks are depicted, including the Imperial Bridge (Megane Bridge) in Japan, the Palace of Versailles in France, and the Statue of Liberty in the United States.
I am sure that the paintings depicting his hometown would have been a topic of conversation when distinguished guests from around the world gathered here.
