Chorakukan supports the relocation of the Agency for Cultural Affairs to Kyoto

March 2015 (2015), in order to promote a virtuous cycle of "work" and "people" in rural areas,
The national government solicited proposals for local relocation of government agencies from prefectures excluding the Tokyo metropolitan area and the wide-area federation of prefectures beyond the prefectural area.
In response to this, the economy, culture and the arts, universities, religion, and parliament and administration in Kyoto joined together to attract the Agency for Cultural Affairs to the city in an all-Kyoto effort,
In March 2016 (Heisei 28), the Agency for Cultural Affairs was fully relocated to Kyoto, the first relocation of a central government ministry since the Meiji era.
Then, on March 27, 2023, the Agency for Cultural Affairs will begin operations in Kyoto.

Chorakukan was completed in 1909 in Kyoto, the cultural center of Japan.
In 1986, it was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Kyoto City, along with 30 pieces of furniture and furnishings.

It is no exaggeration to say that this pavilion, which encompasses art styles from around the world, was born from the inheritance of art, culture, and history.
We believe it is our mission to pass on this cultural asset to the next generation and to support the promotion of culture and the arts.

Kyoto is a capital where culture and art flourish.
We at Chorakukan hereby express our support for the relocation of the Agency for Cultural Affairs to Kyoto and wish for the promotion and development of Japanese arts and culture as well as Kyoto.
